Our client, a premier provider of material handling and storage solutions and comprehensive warehouse system design, is actively seeking an experienced Service Manager for their Portland, OR branch.
This role is responsible for supervising and managing all Service Department operations and personnel. The ideal candidate will bring industry-specific experience, demonstrating a strong ability to lead a large and diverse team effectively, ensuring the highest levels of customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
Service Manager Job Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Service Department, ensuring effective management of all staff, including FSMs, project managers, shop personnel, and office staff.
- Supervise shop operations to ensure timely repairs and preparations of new and rental equipment for deliveries.
- Maintain optimal staffing levels and manage equipment needs for road mechanics and parts personnel.
- Regularly review branch operations, expenses, service team performance, and potential growth opportunities.
- Handle customer requests and inquiries for the entire product line, ensuring exceptional service delivery.
- Manage warranty submittals and monitor rejection rates to maintain quality control.
- Conduct competitive analysis of labor rates and work closely with the Sales Department to develop and expand business opportunities.
- Oversee Work-In-Process and non-billable percentages to ensure branch profitability.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of forklifts and related industrial equipment, ensuring expertise in operations.
Qualifications
- Must possess significant industry experience in material handling and material storage, with a strong preference for candidates experienced in servicing forklifts, warehouse equipment, automation equipment, and material storage systems (e.g., conveyors, racks).
- Ideal candidates will have a background in any part of the conveyor/material storage industries, whether industrial or commercial.
- Commitment to stability is crucial; we are looking for dedicated professionals who are not job hoppers and who will report to the office daily.
- Exceptional customer service skills, with proficiency in written, verbal, and in-person communication.
- Ability to read, understand, interpret, and convey technical information accurately and effectively.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
