As an Outside Sales Representative, you will be responsible for selling a comprehensive range of building materials, with a focus on lumber, trusses, and related products. Your extensive knowledge of these materials, coupled with your understanding of the construction marketplace and the supply process for contractors and builders, will enable you to effectively identify sales opportunities and provide tailored solutions to meet customers’ needs. Whether it’s residential builders, commercial contractors, or customers in the kit and ready-build home market, you will play a vital role in driving revenue growth.

Outside Sales Representative Job Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and pursue sales opportunities in the construction marketplace, specifically focusing on lumber, trusses, and related materials.
  • Conduct thorough market research to identify potential projects, customers, and key decision-makers.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, understanding their requirements and providing exceptional service and support.
  • Utilize a customer-centric and needs-focused sales approach to offer suitable solutions that meet customers’ specific needs.
  • Actively prospect and generate leads through cold calling, networking, and other sales techniques.
  • Deliver persuasive sales presentations, negotiate contracts, and close deals to achieve or exceed sales targets.
  • Collaborate closely with the sales team, operations, and other departments to ensure seamless order processing and customer satisfaction.
  • Utilize MS Office Suite and other software tools, such as Builder Trend-type software, to manage sales activities and customer interactions efficiently.


  • Proven track record of sales success in the construction marketplace, with a focus on construction supply sales.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building materials, specifically lumber, trusses, and related products.
  • Ability to establish and nurture strong relationships with customers, understanding their needs and providing exceptional service.
  • Results-oriented with a customer-centric and needs-focused sales perspective.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, with the ability to quickly adapt to new software tools.
