[Commercial Lighting] Outside Sales Representative | $140K OTE

Location: Portland, OR

Our client, a distinguished provider of commercial lighting and control solutions with specialization in spec solutions, is looking for a dynamic Outside Sales professional. In this role, you will be responsible for taking over a territory that includes some established accounts, as well as expanding your reach into new areas. Your primary focus will be working with contractors and distributors to ensure that products are well-stocked and prominently featured in projects.

This role involves not only maintaining and deepening existing customer relationships but also actively acquiring and developing new ones. You will collaborate with team members across various departments, such as quotes, tech support, controls, and project management, to guarantee that the best products are selected for projects. Additionally, you will be instrumental in problem-solving, planning, and educating customers on technical aspects.

The specific layout of your territory will be influenced by your location, potentially covering the local Portland area or extending to other parts of the state.

Lighting Outside Sales Job Responsibilities

  • Take charge of an assigned territory, managing and expanding existing accounts.
  • Collaborate with contractors and distributors to ensure product availability and placement in projects.
  • Expand and deepen customer relationships, alongside acquiring and developing new relationships.
  • Work closely with team members in quotes, tech support, controls, and project management.
  • Provide solutions and educational support for customers regarding technical questions and issues.
  • Engage in proactive problem-solving and strategic planning within your territory.
  • Be adaptable to the territory layout, which may vary based on your location.


  • Sales experience (lighting industry experience is advantageous but not mandatory).
  • Self-directed and highly motivated, with a strong desire for training and sales success.
  • Demonstrated ability to grow and build a career in the commercial lighting and controls industry.
  • Team player with a “work hard-play hard” and competitive mindset.
  • Strong communication skills and technical aptitude or experience.
  • Professional demeanor, good mathematical skills, and a habit of self-improvement and growth.
  • Exceptionally detail-oriented
