Senior Controls Technician

Compensation: $45-$55/hr DOE

Location:   Bend, OR

Our client, a leading provider of HVAC/mechanical construction, HVAC service and maintenance, building automation and controls, commissioning and system optimization, and mechanical engineering/design-build services, is seeking a talented Senior Controls Technician. This role will be pivotal in leading the field delivery of building automation and HVAC controls projects, spanning installation, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

Senior Controls Technician Job Responsibilities


  • Lead installation and termination of low-voltage controls wiring, controllers, sensors, actuators, and network components.
  • Perform point-to-point checkout, functional testing, and system validation against sequences of operation.
  • Commission integrated HVAC systems and optimize performance for comfort, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Configure and program BAS/DDC systems to meet project sequences and customer requirements.
  • Support system integrations and coordinate with stakeholders on communications (BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, etc.) as needed.
  • Support expansions, retrofits, and upgrades in existing buildings.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex controls issues (logic, communications, devices, sensors, trending, alarms).
  • Provide clear documentation and recommendations to drive corrective action and long-term reliability.
  • Communicate confidently with owners, facility teams, and contractors; deliver excellent follow-through.
  • Serve as a technical lead in the field; support and mentor junior technicians.
  • Partner with project teams to ensure scope, documentation, and execution align.

Qualifications


  • Strong hands-on experience in HVAC controls / BAS / DDC with installation, programming, and commissioning responsibility.
  • Ability to interpret control drawings, wiring diagrams, submittals, and sequences of operation.
  • Solid understanding of HVAC equipment and applications (AHUs, VAVs, hydronic systems, boilers/chillers, etc.).
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to own issues through resolution.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in the field.
