Account Manager / Outside Technical Sales

Compensation: $50K-$100K DOE

Location:   Portland, OR

Our client, a leading industrial and commercial service provider, is seeking an experienced Technical Sales Representative. This role combines relationship-based sales with strong technical acumen to serve industrial and commercial customers.

The successful candidate will understand motor systems, drives, and repair processes, and be able to guide customers toward the right products and services. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic account management, and hands-on collaboration with the internal service team to ensure seamless delivery and customer satisfaction.

Outside Technical Sales Job Responsibilities

  • Target and develop new business opportunities in industrial and commercial plants.
  • Engage deeply with customer technical staff (facility engineers, maintenance managers, plant technicians) to understand their motor/drive/repair needs, failure modes and service expectations.
  • Advise on correct products and service scopes (motors, drives, rewinds, repair, preventative maintenance) – and escalate when a solution is not straightforward.
  • Collaborate with internal service/technician teams to ensure solution feasibility, proper quoting, service scheduling and execution.
  • Achieve and exceed sales targets while maintaining profitability, margin control and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain disciplined territory planning, account management, pipeline forecasting, and CRM tools.
  • Stay current on motors, drives, repair best-practices, industry trends and key customer sectors (heavy industrial, commercial service, OEMs) to bring value and credibility to customers.

Qualifications

  • Proven heavy-industrial or commercial service-sales experience (rather than residential or strictly product-retail) – ideally selling motors, drives, service or repair to plants or large facilities.
  • Strong technical understanding of electric motors (especially three-phase, industrial duty), drives, control systems, and service/repair implications.
  • Ability to interpret customer drawings/plans, analyze motor issues, propose appropriate repair or replacement service.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: able to build technical credibility with customer engineers, manage service expectations, and protect our brand through accurate solution-selling.
  • Self-driven, strategic in account development, comfortable with longer sales cycles and solution-based selling.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technical field or equivalent experience preferred.

If you have the qualifications and are seeking a challenging and rewarding career in a dynamic and collaborative environment, we encourage you to apply for this position.
