Our client, a prominent player in the fresh and frozen seafood import, export, processing, and distribution industry, is seeking an experienced Food Safety & Compliance Manager. This pivotal role involves ensuring the highest standards of food safety and compliance within the company.
Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, the Quality Assurance Manager will lead initiatives to maintain and enhance quality standards. The role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, from establishing product quality benchmarks to contributing to strategic plans, proactively identifying and resolving issues, implementing changes for systemic improvements, and ensuring compliance with both international and domestic food safety regulations. A key aspect of the role is to ensure full compliance with government food safety regulations and maintain the highest possible industry food safety ratings in alignment with the company’s goals.
Food Safety Compliance Manager Job Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, manage, and control all quality standards within the company.
- Report to the Director of Operations and provide leadership for operational objectives.
- Establish acceptable product quality levels and contribute to strategic planning.
- Proactively identify and resolve quality issues, determining systemic improvements and implementing change.
- Ensure compliance with International & Domestic Food Safety regulations.
- Maintain and promote the company’s food safety culture, including SQF System, Regulatory Requirements, Customer Specifications, and Safe Food Handling Practices.
- Prepare for, participate in, assist with, and perform regulatory and compliance audits.
- Inspect and document incoming goods, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
- Identify food safety hazards and implement immediate and long-term corrective actions.
- Report food safety, sanitation, and employee safety concerns from audits, providing follow-up documentation on progress.
- Participate in routine HACCP and Food Safety Team initiatives and audits.
- Develop and maintain HACCP plans and SOPs for all processing equipment.
- Research and respond to customer complaints, ensuring permanent corrective actions.
- Oversee facility sanitation programs, including the administration of the company’s sanitation program.
- Manage analytical testing programs.
- Ensure associates are well-trained and knowledgeable about Food Safety requirements set by local, state, and federal agencies.
- Ensure product safety by managing the removal and tracking of products with safety issues.
- Oversee additional tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in science, chemistry, microbiology, quality assurance, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in protein processing operations, preferably in seafood, with meat processing experience being a plus.
- Minimum of five years of food safety and compliance management experience in a food manufacturing/processing environment.
- Expertise in HACCP, FDA, USDA Food Safety regulations.
- At least 2 years of experience in instructional/training/development/presentation and OSHA training & material handling certification safety experience.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite; experience with distribution-focused ERPs is advantageous.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
