Our client, a respected independent insurance agency with a long-standing history in the industry, is seeking a Benefits Account Manager to manage a portfolio of large group accounts. With a focus on commercial, personal, and group benefit insurance lines, this role offers an opportunity to build trusted client relationships, manage complex accounts, and deliver exceptional service in the Health and Life benefits space.
The book of business includes approximately 70-90 accounts, primarily ranging from 50-100 lives, with some exceeding 100. This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced professional to thrive in a collaborative environment with a client-first approach.
Group Benefits Account Manager Job Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, fostering trust and satisfaction in Health and Life insurance products.
- Partner with brokers to manage an assigned book of business, identifying client needs, preparing proposals, and delivering presentations.
- Retain existing clients while assisting in onboarding new accounts.
- Recommend products and services to address coverage gaps and ensure comprehensive solutions.
- Process renewals, including re-marketing and negotiating with carriers when needed.
- Coordinate and conduct client presentations, such as open enrollment meetings, benefit fairs, and renewals.
- Stay current on industry legislative and compliance issues, including ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, and FMLA.
- Review contracts, amendments, and SPDs for accuracy, resolving discrepancies with carriers.
- Act as a mentor to Associate Account Managers and collaborate on client objectives.
- Respond promptly to client and carrier inquiries through various communication channels.
- Provide claims, eligibility, billing, and administrative support advocacy.
- Attend weekly department meetings and carrier updates to remain informed on changes and strategies.
- Maintain accurate client information and uphold service standards.
Qualifications
- 2-3 years of experience managing Large Group Accounts (50+ employees).
- Knowledge of medical, dental, disability, group life, and individual benefit products, including alternate funding arrangements (self-insured and level funded).
- Active and clean Oregon Health and Life licenses required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build rapport and prioritize effectively.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience with Applied Epic, Wired Enroll, EASE, and Employee Navigator (preferred but not required).
- Occasional travel required for client meetings in the Portland area.
