Human Resources Generalist

Location:   Tacoma, WA

Our client, a reputable importer, processor, and distributor of fresh and frozen seafood, is looking for an experienced and meticulous Human Resources Generalist. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of the HR department, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, and HR policy implementation. This role provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with other departments, including Food Safety, LP/Safety, and Production in Tacoma, WA.

Human Resources Generalist Job Responsibilities


  • Serve as the primary on-site HR representative for daily plant operations.
  • Manage full-cycle recruitment: posting jobs, screening candidates, scheduling interviews, and onboarding new hires.
  • Manage time and attendance and payroll functions for the facility.
  • Provide support to employees on HR-related topics such as leaves, benefits, and HR policies.
  • Coordinate new hire orientation and ensure proper documentation is completed, organize training & development initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in HRIS systems and paper form.
  • Assist with benefit administration of medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and 401K paperwork as well as COBRA and FMLA.
  • Provide support to employees in various HR-related topics such as leaves and compensation and resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Assist in development and implementation of HR policies and procedures in compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Manage leave of absence, workers compensation, benefit administration and ensure associates are informed of all changes.
  • Partner with the Safety Manager and Plant Manager to maintain compliance with OSHA, Washington L&I, food-safety standards, and internal audits.
  • Support performance management processes and employee development programs.
  • Investigate and resolve employee relations issues with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Assist in planning employee engagement activities and wellness programs.
  • Ensure compliance with WA employment laws and company policies.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, preferred.
  • Proven experience as an HR Generalist with attention to detail and proven results.
  • Minimum 5 years of HR experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of WA Human Resources laws and best practices.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion is a must.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification, preferred.
  • Experience in food production, packaging, seafood processing, or related industries.
