Human Resources Generalist

Our client, a reputable importer, processor, and distributor of fresh and frozen seafood, is looking for an experienced and meticulous Human Resources Generalist. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of the HR department, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, and HR policy implementation. This role provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with other departments, including Food Safety, LP/Safety, and Production in Tacoma, WA.
Human Resources Generalist Job Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary on-site HR representative for daily plant operations.
- Manage full-cycle recruitment: posting jobs, screening candidates, scheduling interviews, and onboarding new hires.
- Manage time and attendance and payroll functions for the facility.
- Provide support to employees on HR-related topics such as leaves, benefits, and HR policies.
- Coordinate new hire orientation and ensure proper documentation is completed, organize training & development initiatives.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in HRIS systems and paper form.
- Assist with benefit administration of medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and 401K paperwork as well as COBRA and FMLA.
- Provide support to employees in various HR-related topics such as leaves and compensation and resolve any issues that may arise.
- Assist in development and implementation of HR policies and procedures in compliance with state and federal laws.
- Manage leave of absence, workers compensation, benefit administration and ensure associates are informed of all changes.
- Partner with the Safety Manager and Plant Manager to maintain compliance with OSHA, Washington L&I, food-safety standards, and internal audits.
- Support performance management processes and employee development programs.
- Investigate and resolve employee relations issues with professionalism and confidentiality.
- Assist in planning employee engagement activities and wellness programs.
- Ensure compliance with WA employment laws and company policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, preferred.
- Proven experience as an HR Generalist with attention to detail and proven results.
- Minimum 5 years of HR experience preferred.
- Knowledge of WA Human Resources laws and best practices.
- Experience with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion is a must.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- PHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification, preferred.
- Experience in food production, packaging, seafood processing, or related industries.
