[Seafood] Food Safety Compliance Coordinator | $60K-$70K DOE
Location: South Bay area, CA
Our client, a distinguished company specializing in the import, export, processing, and distribution of fresh and frozen seafood, is currently looking to hire a Food Safety & Compliance Coordinator. This role is essential in ensuring the company adheres to the highest standards in food safety and compliance, in line with government regulations and industry benchmarks.
The position will focus on promoting and maintaining a strong food safety culture across the organization. This includes oversight of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), the SQF System, regulatory requirements, customer specifications, and safe food handling practices. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in upholding the company’s reputation for quality and safety in the seafood processing and distribution industry.
Food Safety Compliance Coordinator Job Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with all government food safety regulations.
- Maintain and enhance the industry food safety ratings in accordance with the facility’s goals.
- Promote and support the company’s food safety culture, including GMPs, SQF System, regulatory requirements, customer specifications, and safe food handling practices.
- Prepare for, participate in, assist with, and conduct regulatory and compliance audits.
- Inspect and document incoming goods for compliance with safety standards.
- Identify food safety hazards and implement corrective actions both immediately and long-term.
- Report and follow up on food safety, sanitation, and employee safety concerns identified during audits.
- Participate in routine HACCP and Food Safety Team initiatives and audits.
- Develop and maintain HACCP plans and SOPs for processing equipment.
- Address customer complaints related to quality, conducting research, and implementing corrective actions.
- Maintain a product and packaging specifications database.
- Oversee and improve facility sanitation programs.
- Administer and maintain the company’s sanitation program.
- Manage analytical testing programs.
- Ensure that associates are well-trained and knowledgeable about Food Safety requirements.
- Manage the removal of products with safety issues from inventory and track corrective measures.
- Undertake additional duties and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Local to the Los Angeles South Bay area.
- Bachelor’s degree in science, chemistry, microbiology, quality assurance, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in protein processing operations, preferably seafood, with meat processing experience being beneficial.
- Over 5 years of food safety and compliance experience in a wholesale food manufacturing/processing environment.
- Expertise in HACCP, FDA, USDA Food Safety regulations.
- Minimum of 2 years of OSHA training & material handling certification safety experience.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
