Senior Controls Account Executive
Compensation: $120K-$140K DOE
Location: Portland, OR
This position is pivotal to expanding the company’s market presence through a consultative sales approach, utilizing the SPIN selling process (Situation, Problem, Implication, Need). The successful candidate will manage client acquisition and retention, project development, and strategic partnerships, while working in close collaboration with internal teams to ensure client satisfaction. Controls Account Executive Job Responsibilities
- Maximize market presence by developing and maintaining strong relationships with new and existing clients within the assigned territory.
- Employ the consultative SPIN selling process to identify client needs and deliver tailored solutions, tracking progress through the company CRM platform.
- Proactively eliminate competitor threats within the client base and ensure a high level of client satisfaction.
- Lead client onboarding processes and foster long-term, productive relationships through full-cycle engagement.
- Provide in-depth consultation on building systems, including energy costs, operations costs, lighting systems, and building system integration.
- Assess existing building lighting applications and develop full LED lighting upgrade projects in collaboration with key vendors and partners.
- Develop and estimate complex controls system projects, incorporating engineering, programming, electrical installation, graphical database creation, and functional testing/commissioning.
- Conduct “lunch and learn” presentations for consulting engineering professionals to promote the specification of leading products, such as Distech, into their designs.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless project execution and client satisfaction.
Qualifications
- 10–15 years of direct experience with building controls, including demonstrated leadership experience.
- Expertise in DDC control theory, applications, and programming, with hands-on experience in Tridium/Niagara systems (Distech experience preferred).
- Proven knowledge of high-rise building systems, energy management, and building integration solutions.
- Strong understanding of business-to-business sales, client development, and strategic project management.
- Experience with estimating and developing controls projects, as well as familiarity with engineering, programming, electrical installation, and commissioning processes.
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage clients, partners, and consulting engineers.
